AFL: It’s the penultimate day of the trade period - and there’s still plenty of business that needs to get done.
Stay across the latest here!
That’s all for today
It’s been a busy day of trade action headlined by Nick Blakey’s move to the Roos.
Collingwood gave up a 2028 third-round pick to Carlton for Flynn Riley.
Zane Duursma got the Demons along with pick 52 as North Melbourne got picks 33 and 49.
Lachie Whitfield went to Carlton along with picks 31 and 50 in exchange for picks 25, 26 and a 2028 third-round pick.
We’ll be back a little later tomorrow with an imposed AFL trade embargo not lifting until 11am AWST.
Until then it’s goodye for now.
Having said that...
It’s not trade-related, but the Eagles have confirmed the re-signing of Fred Rodriguez on a one-year deal after it was revealed by The West Australian last week.
The top pick in the 2025 rookie draft played 15 games for the WAFL Eagles this season.
“We’ve got a great bunch of boys who I want to continue to grow and play with, and we also have great coaches who I feel can help me develop further and get the most out of myself,” he said.
“I’m really excited about what we can do next year as a group and, personally, to keep working and getting better and hopefully make my debut.
Still nothing from West Coast
The Eagles look likely to be out of the running for pick No.5 with Richmond the frontrunners.
Deals for Jack Viney and Trent Rivers remain in limbo, meaning both will have to be done on the final day.
Unless there is some other deal being worked on in the background, it’s fair to see most West Coast supporters have been underwhelmed by the lack of action given the slowness of the rebuild.
But maybe they can turn it around tomorrow.

Looking forward to the draft
With the trade period almost over, attention will quickly turn to the AFL Draft next month, with West Coast meeting with a father-son prospect.
Noah Braun is emerging as a draft smokey, having spoken to six clubs in the past few weeks, including the Eagles.
Another big name off the board
Arguably the biggest player still left on the table this trade period, Giants defender Lachie Whitfield is off to the Blues.
The two-time All-Australian will head to Carlton along with picks 31 & 50 in exchange for picks 25, 26 and a 2028 third-round pick, according to AFL.com’s Cal Twomey.

Roos boss is pleased with Blakey deal
“It’s huge for our club to get a player of Nick’s calibre,” Brady Rawlings said.
“We’re so excited he’s chosen us and we’ve been able to get a deal done. Hopefully it opens the door for many more signings, which is our plan.
“We knew this was our opportunity to go really hard. There’s the family connection; he used to come and train here as a father-son.”
Rawlings did not allude to the fallout Blakey has had with Sydney.
“It’s not for me to share. His reasons [for leaving] have been alluded to in the media,” he said.
“He clearly loved his time there [in Sydney] and loves his teammates. This is a fresh opportunity for him.”
Hollands takes small steps toward football return
Elijah Hollands was delisted by Carlton following his mental health episode in round six that saw him miss the rest of the year.
However, his manager, David Trotter, said his situation has improved in recent weeks.
“I think he’ll try and get back and play some local footy. Whether that’s here in Melbourne, or he’s from Wodonga, whether he goes to his home club back there,” he said.
“He’s in a good space. He’s doing a lot of work off the field.”
