Perth has suffered another chilly morning, smashing Wednesday’s low with the mercury plunging to 3.9C at about 6.30am on Thursday.

It comes a day after the city experienced its coldest day in 10 months, only for that record to be broken today — proving beyond doubt that winter has well and truly arrived.

Elsewhere in the state, it reached 4.1C just after 3am at Perth Airport, and Jandakot was the coldest part of the metro area when it reached 3.1C at 7.40am.

Regionally, the coldest recorded temperature was 0.4C at Gingin Airport just before 7am, while Cunderdin Airport recorded the second lowest temperature with 0.9C at about 5.15am.

The cold morning temps are being exacerbated by clear conditions brought on by a high-pressure system, which should last until Saturday.

However, the cold won’t last because wet and windy conditions are due to set in come the weekend when a low-pressure system strikes the coast on Saturday.

“It will be cloudy with a very high chance of showers, most likely in the morning,” the BoM said.

“There will be a chance of a thunderstorm near the coast with winds northerly 15 to 25 km/h shifting southwesterly 25 to 35 km/h during the morning, then tending southeast to southwesterly 15 to 20 km/h during the evening.”
