The Geyer legacy will continue in the west with Mavrik signing with the Perth Bears after his famous father Mark was a fan favourite over there.

Mark played 33 games for the Western Reds, with the fiery forward one of the strongest advocates for the NRL to bring in a Perth franchise.

He got his wish with the Bears set to join the competition in 2027, and he’ll be one of their biggest supporters now that his son has signed a two-year deal to be part of their inaugural squad.

Mavrik spent two seasons with the Panthers and joined the Wests Tigers this year where he’s played two NRL matches.

“It’s a pretty special moment for our family to have the chance to represent the Bears in their first season,” Mavrik said.

“Dad loved his time in Perth, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to represent the proud people of Western Australia.

“I know how passionate they are about their sport and I can’t wait to run onto HBF Park next season.”

Mavrik, 25, can play in the middle or on an edge and will provide Bears coach Mal Meninga with some versatility in his pack.

“Mav works very hard in both attack and defence and I’m excited to see what he can bring to our squad for next season,” Meninga said.

“He is effective in the middle and on the edge. He will make an immediate impact in our footy team.

“It’s a pretty special moment for Mav and his family and I’m delighted to welcome them all back to Western Australia.”
