Exmouth total solar eclipse viewing site ticket sales opened

Three-thousand people will get a front row seat to Exmouths once-in-a-lifetime total solar eclipse in April, with tickets for the official viewing site now on sale.
With the remote site set to be the only place in Australia to experience the total solar eclipse on April 20, the State Government has opened ticket sales for its official viewing area between Exmouth and Learmonth.
At about 11.29am, for a little over a minute, Exmouth will become cloaked in complete darkness when the sun, moon and Earth align.
Tens of thousands of tourists are expected to flock to the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions to catch a glimpse of the total eclipse, which will take place over three hours.
Onslow and Coral Bay will experience 99 per cent darkness, while Carnarvon will have 95 per cent darkness.
The Exmouth family-friendly viewing site will be open from 7am to 4pm on the day, with drinking water and shade marquees provided.
Two ticket options are available, including a $50 ticket with a packed lunch and parking, while a $90 ticket holder will receive a packed lunch and shuttle bus transport.
State Development, Jobs and Trade Minister Roger Cook said the extraordinary astronomical event was going to attract a surge in international and domestic visitors.
“The Eclipse Viewing Site is an opportunity to experience the maximum amount of darkness alongside scientific experts and eclipse chasers from around the world,” he said.
“We want to see the 2023 Total Solar Eclipse leave a lasting legacy for the growing tourist centres in the Ningaloo region.”
Road and telecommunication upgrades are underway across the region to make way for the event.
The Shire of Exmouth last week opened bookings for serviced campsites at its Welch Street overflow camping area with bookings for self-contained campsites still available after going on sale in October.
