Exmouth residents could be slugged with an almost 5 per cent rate increase if the proposed hike accepted by councillors passes. The rates strategy proposed by the Shire of Exmouth would see all rates categories increase by 4.8 per cent, with the residential rate in the dollar increased to $0.0787. It would mean the minimum payment would increase from $930 to $950 for general rates. At last month’s council meeting, councillors approved a motion to support the strategy and invite public submissions from electors and ratepayers. The move comes after rates were frozen last year amid the coronavirus pandemic. Residents have until next Wednesday to make public submissions on the proposed rates hike.
