After a car accident left Jane Errey with severe injuries and her dog Clancy lost in dense bushland in June, the heartwarming reunion we’ve all been hoping for has finally arrived. Thanks to the united effort of friends and strangers, Ms. Errey and her beloved Blue Heeler, Clancy, are back together this week. The reunion comes after an extensive search that united friends and strangers alike, all driven by a common goal to find Ms Errey’s beloved dog. Events unfolded on June 3, when Jane Errey’s car veered off the road near Coral Bay, leading to a rollover. The accident occurred when she momentarily took her eyes off the road to set her coffee cup down. In the chaotic aftermath of the crash, the first thing on her mind was Clancy, who had disappeared from the scene. “Before I even got out of the car, I had a look to see that Clancy was gone. I just remember saying that I need to find my dog,” Ms. Errey recalled. Word of Ms Errey’s predicament quickly spread, mobilising friends and strangers from across the Pilbara to rush to Coral Bay and join forces in the search for Clancy. Despite being bedridden with spinal injuries and in great pain, Ms Errey was deeply moved by the overwhelming support from the community. “It was a massive relief for me that so many people were willing to give their time and money to contribute and do their bit. It’s just amazing what people did,” she said. In the week after the accident, a dedicated team of volunteers scoured kilometres of bushland, refusing to entertain the thought that they might never find Clancy. Ms Errey’s unwavering hope that she would be reunited with her beloved pet kept her spirits high. “For the first couple of days he was missing, I felt very close to him, and I could feel that he was OK and he was still alive,” she said. Ms Errey took comfort in the fact that Clancy had received snake awareness training and that recent baiting hadn’t occurred in the area. She believed he was likely keeping his distance from traffic and remaining cautious. “I figured that he was still running scared, so he wasn’t going to be too close to traffic, I hoped.” Ms Errey never gave up hope, convinced that as Clancy’s body had not been found, he must still be out there somewhere. She remained resolute, saying, “I did reach a point in time where I felt that he wasn’t close, which was a weird feeling, but I couldn’t focus on that as a body hadn’t been found yet, so he is still out there alive.” The moment of joy and relief finally came when she received the news that Clancy had been found. Volunteers from SAFE Karratha found him near the scene of the accident more than a week after it happened. Ms Errey said when she heard the news, she was overcome with emotions. “The fact that he had been found and he had only minor grazes and was very hungry and thirsty. He was in really good condition,” she said. “I was stoked.” Clancy was cared for by friends while Jane Errey recovered in hospital. They were finally reunited this week.
