KHB gets top Onslow business gong
Brilliance in business was the theme of the night on Saturday, November 16, as the Onslow Business Excellence Awards recognised the outstanding achievements of many local organisations.
The awards, which were hosted by the Onslow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, are in their fifth year with 2019 seeing the largest number of award submissions received to date and a record number of 100 people in attendance.
OCCI chief executive Chantelle King said the increased participation was testament to the strength of the local business community.
“There were a number of businesses applying for the first time,” she said.

“Some categories were very hotly contested which speaks volumes to the ongoing business growth within the region.”
The main award of the night, best overall business, went to KHB Mobile Mechanical.
Ms King said KHB, which also won the best business 6-19 employees category, started from humble beginnings, with a husband and wife team investing into what was originally a small mobile mechanical service.
“KHB has continued to seek new ways to provide a better service through technology and specialised tooling,” she said.
“They have clear goal directives, understand the competitive landscape and place very strong focus on staff upskilling and improvement.”
Best employee of the year was won by Rolf Hilario from Thrifty Car and Truck Rental / AUS Mechanical Services. Ms King said Rolf had worked with Thrifty Onslow since early 2017.
“He is an impressive business leader and is widely respected within the organisation, among Thrifty’s customers, and in the broader Onslow community,” she said.
“As well as being incredibly knowledgeable and tuned in to customer needs, he has a reputation as a hard worker and an admirable team manager.”
Other winners included DICE Solutions for best business 0-5 employees, Thrifty Car and Truck Rental / AUS Mechanical Services for best business 20 plus employees and V Swans Ashburton for best community organisation.
The people’s choice award was won by Wirrpanda Foundation Onslow, while best Aboriginal business went to Thalanyji Station Services.
