The Bundegi boat ramp north of Exmouth has been closed for repairs and replacement of the catwalk and chaffers.

Work to repair the ramp began on May 7 and boat users have been redirected to Tan-tabiddi and marina boat launching facilities.

Shire of Ex-mouth president Matthew Niikkula said closure of the ramp would cause some inconvenience but it was necessary to improve thedurability of the facility.

“The hard plastic chaffers will be replaced with D rubbers, similar to the Tantabiddi boat ramp and additional horizontal and vertical chaffers installed,” he said.

“The maintenance will take approximately eight weeks and we are mindful of the impact this will have on commercial operators and recreational fishing and boating, however the end result will be a more functional facility that is less susceptible to damage.”

Mr Niikkula said the ramp would be accessible by the end of the month but the catwalk and chaffers would not be completed for another few weeks, meaning there was risk of damage to boats using the jetty during this time.

The ramp will be closed again in late June when the catwalk and chaffers are replaced.
