Team Buck Wild has won champion boat in King Bay Game Fishing Club’s 2017 King Brey Open last weekend.

Buck Wild (1009.4 points) won ahead of Frypan (921.8) and Black Anchors (916.8) to claim the $1000 prize.

The weigh-in outside the Tambrey Tavern proved a hit, with members of the public mingling with anglers to check out what had been reeled in from the waters off Dampier this year.

KBGFC president Ian Lannary said 32 boats and 103 anglers competed in this year’s competition.

“The weather definitely played the part and we were very impressed with the turnout from the public at the weigh-in,” he said.

“We have seen some great fish come in and especially some excellent catches by juniors.

“There have been a few more bottom fish species as far as red emperor, coral trout and some impressive rankin cod this year.”

Lannary said the club was looking ahead to next year’s competition.

Heaviest catches:

Red emperor: Ben Arnold, 6.7kg

Coral trout: Nathan Gough, 5.48kg

Rankin cod: Dan Maclaren, 7.82kg

Sea perch: Jacob Crowhurst, 5.32kg

Emperor (all): Cody Hancock, 7.2kg

Mackerel: Tasmin Kyle, 11.6kg

Bluebone: Roger Taylor, 5.8kg

Squid: Neil Grant, 0.44kg
