The Roosters have continued their pre-season signing spree, with workhorse back-rower Nat Butcher inking a new three-year deal to stay with the club until 2027.

The 26-year-old has emerged as one of the hardest-working players in the league, with Butcher making the third-most tackles in 2023, behind only Harry Grant and Blayke Brailey.

Butcher made his NRL debut in 2016, the same year he captained the Roosters to a famous comeback win over Penrith in the Holden Cup grand final, and has a knack of running into holes, with 21 tries in his career so far.

“I’ve been part of the Roosters since I was 17 and it’s my home,” Butcher said.

“We’ve got a great crew here and I love that everyone in the building is committed to the same goal, so I’m stoked that I’ll continue to be part of this club.”

It’s been a big few weeks for the club, with Siua Wong, Connor Watson, Billy Smith and Sandon Smith signing new deals, while NRLW stars Jess Sergis and Tarryn Aiken also inked extensions on Monday.

Butcher’s decision to stay is great news for the club, with his brother Egan also signed for the next two seasons.

“Nat was the captain of our under-20s side and it’s been terrific to watch him develop as a leader in our NRL squad over the years,” Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

“He is a man of high integrity on and off the field, and with Nat you know that he will apply himself to everything he does, so it’s great that he will continue to represent the Roosters in the coming years.”
