Camera IconMt Tarcoola Primary School had an early start to NAIDOC Week when they invited popular Indigenous artist Dion Drummond to perform on Thursday. With NAIDOC Week falling in the middle of the school holidays this year, teachers decided to push forward their celebrations to last week. The day’s program featured an enthralling performance by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander man Drummond, who used song, dance, storytelling and a display of artefacts to celebrate culture with the school. Throughout the day, students were busy enjoying NAIDOC classroom activities, a parent morning tea and a sausage sizzle lunch. Deputy principal Marlene Bevan said the event gave students an opportunity to learn about Indigenous culture, achievements and history. “We want our students to respect and value the culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” she said.
