Ex-MP Rory Amon claims there was ‘no second meeting’ with teenager he is accused of raping in carpark bathroom

WARNING: Distressing content A former MP has denied meeting with a teenage boy a second time as he fights allegations before a jury that he raped the 13-year-old in a carpark bathroom after they met on a gay dating site. Roderick “Rory” Amon has stepped back into the witness box to continue his evidence in his NSW Supreme Court trial as he fights allegations he raped the teenage boy in a bathroom in the underground carpark of the teen’s apartment complex where he lived with his parents in 2017. Mr Amon does not dispute he met the boy on a gay dating site and engaged in sexual activity but claims the boy had told him he was 17. The former Northern Beaches councillor last week told the jury he recalled exchanging “nude photographs” with the boy on Snapchat. Mr Amon on Monday denied meeting with the boy during a second alleged encounter in the carpark bathroom. “There was no second meeting,” Mr Amon told the jury. Prosecutors earlier alleged Mr Amon directed the boy to perform oral sex on him in the carpark bathroom late one evening in 2017, and in the second alleged encounter in the same bathroom, performed oral sex on the boy before asking him to attempt to have sex with him. The alleged sex did not last long and Mr Amon allegedly asked the boy to masturbate himself while he did the same, the jury was previously told. Mr Amon’s lawyer had previously challenged the complainant, now 22, on whether the second alleged encounter took place at all, with the man maintaining his “memory serves (him) right”. The former councillor on Monday said he did not dispute that he guided the boy’s hand towards his erect penis before the boy performed oral sex on him in the bathroom during the first encounter. Mr Amon earlier said he used false names on Snapchat and had registered another name on a second mobile phone, both of which he used for Grindr purposes to protect his private life. “Now would you agree that that private life involved secretly having sexual intercourse with (a) 13-year-old?” Crown prosecutor Meaghan Fleeton asked. “No,” Mr Amon replied. Ms Fleeton also asked Mr Amon if he was “grappling with feelings of shame knowing (he) had sexual activity with a 13-year-old”, which Mr Amon’s lawyer Matthew Johnston SC objected to. Ms Fleeton withdrew the question. The former councillor has pleaded not guilty to 10 historical child sexual offences and has maintained his innocence.
