We have never been fans of Big Brother but you can’t help but be overwhelmed with the comments of your fellow travellers who etch their love into diaries at Chimes Spa Retreat, the five-star B&B in Denmark in the Great Southern.

The love of the establishment is effusive but sincere and clearly Chimes has woven its magic on its guests who have penned their thoughts of a love of life, their partners and of the B&B into the little diaries near the bed.

And so it was with us visiting one of our special places that was the choice for our first escape together some 20 years ago.

Yes, we have been back many times but not for awhile and found to our delight that the charm and the love was still there in abundance nurtured by the new owners Elizabeth and Jack Otto.

Chimes, built in 1997, is located atop Mt Shadforth and has breathtaking views and superb ambience.

And it is not just the spa suites overlooking the Southern Ocean or the vista of magnificent stands of Karri Trees, that make this our favourite place.

Close by wineries abound, with names that you will usually only find in the best London bottle shops, such as Somerset Hill Wines.

And there are truly breathtaking bays such as William Bay or Shelley Beach or perhaps you would like the Tree Top walk just a 30-minute drive away.

And being close to Walpole, there is the Giant Tingle Tree and the Valley of the Giants drive.

Why not get a picnic basket together for a day exploring?

Chimes, which is adults-only, has a variety of different types of accommodation with the ultimate being the Tower and Best Room in the House with a carpeted spa room with its own lounge.

It does not offer room service nor does it have full dining but it does have an attractive conservatory where a complimentary continental gourmet breakfast is served, or you can or opt for à la carte hot breakfast. Lunch or dinner platters can be also be ordered.

Built with the romantic couple in mind, each guest room is spacious and tastefully decorated and includes king-size beds, open plan double spa jacuzzi, Smart TV, Wi-Fi internet, air-conditioning and a mini bar.

A stay here costs from per couple $214 per night for a four-night stay in a Garden Suite. Contact details (08) 9848 2255 chimes.com.au
