VERY limited places on our Amazing Aida Weekend 2027
A once-in-a-generation event is coming to Australia — and just 20 readers can experience it with me.
Direct from Italy’s Arena di Verona, Verdi’s Aida is coming to Adelaide, and we have a three-day package departing February 25, 2027.
We have a very limited number of A Reserve tickets.
The entire production is coming — an international cast of more than 400, and 28 containers of equipment.
The event was originally planned for this year, but had to be postponed because of shipping issues.
The production is bringing a 100-piece orchestra and a 150-member chorus.
There will also be 300 local crew members as this will be the biggest opera ever presented in Australia.
It is an extraordinary production — and it is extraordinary that it is all being brought to Australia. Truly a milestone moment.
The production is under the direction of Franco Zeffirelli, who is renowned for his cinematic brilliance. He relishes lavish, larger-than-life staging, and has turned Verdi’s masterpiece into a spectacle.
There will be towering and meticulously crafted sets which recreate the grandeur of ancient Egypt — all brought from Italy. Opulent costumes and sweeping ensemble scenes conjure a world of royal courts, sacred temples and battlefields.
And Holidays of Australia, our friends-and-partners in Adelaide, have managed to secure the A Reserve tickets. With them, we’ve put together our Amazing Aida Weekend 2027.
It includes return economy flights to Adelaide and two nights at the Amora Hotel (formerly the Hilton Hotel) in Adelaide, including breakfast.
On the first night in Adelaide, I will host a welcome dinner for the group in the Coal Cellar + Grill, Amora Hotel’s signature restaurant. Considered the height of dining sophistication in the heart of Adelaide, it has a focus on South Australian produce.
On the second night, we’re off to Aida with those A Reserve tickets.
The package includes return transfers from Adelaide Airport to Amora Hotel, and return transfers from the Amora Hotel to the Adelaide Oval.
It is:
+ From $2849 per person, twin share.
+ From $3329 for a solo traveller.

THE OPERA
This world first will see Verona’s principal performers, orchestra, chorus, ballet, scenery, props and costumes brought to Adelaide.
A spokesperson for the event explains: “The stage and scenery at Adelaide Oval will span across 100m of interactive stage architecture, designed to immerse and captivate audiences — an all-encompassing spectacle.
“This monumental production brings together what is widely considered the most stellar operatic cast ever assembled for an Australian stage, led by a star-studded vocal line-up.”

SPECIAL NOTE
We presented this package last year, for the planned 2026 performance. It sold out. When it was cancelled, all the guests had their money fully refunded. When the 2027 performance was announced, as a courtesy we went back to each of them personally to offer them places. Thirty of the 50 available places have been booked, leaving 20 available. The total group travelling from WA, and joining me for the welcoming dinner, will be 50 people. Stephen Scourfield
