Marcus Herbert says he is “stoked” to be staying at West Coast after the mid-season draftee turned his back on fierce rival interest to sign a new deal with the club.

As reported by The West Australian on Monday, Herbert will remain at the Eagles until at least the end of 2028 after penning a two-year extension this week.

“I’m stoked to be in the blue and gold for another couple of seasons,” Herbert said.

“The future is bright with the crew we have so it will be very exciting to see what we can do in the coming years.

“Everyone has been so helpful, on and off the field, players, coaches and staff have made the move really easy and I’m excited to stay.”

Carlton were among the rival clubs who were circling the 24-year-old, having shown interest in him prior to the mid-season draft, where he was selected with pick 13 by West Coast.

It was understood the Eagles has initially offered Herbert a one-year deal before both parties agreed to a two-year extension.

“Marcus has settled in exceptionally well and has already made a strong impact on our group both on and off the field,” Eagles list boss Matt Clarke said.

“He drives strong standards around his preparation and will now look to a strong AFL pre-season.

“We’re excited about his future and look forward to seeing his continued growth and development as a player over the coming years.”

Herbert has been a sensation across half-back for the Eagles since arriving from Geelong’s VFL program, making his debut against North Melbourne in round 14.

He played 10 games for the club in the back half of the year, averaging 21.6 disposals per game.

West Coast held exit interviews with players last week following the end of the home and away season, delisting Tyler Brockman, Harry Barnett and Harvey Johnston.
