West Coast have earned three Rising Star nominations inside the first half of a season for the first time in the award’s history, with Josh Lindsay the latest Eagle to receive a nod.

Lindsay was on Monday recognised for a strong start to his AFL career, with last year’s Pick 19 quickly becoming an important part of Andrew McQualter’s defensive set-up.

The pinpoint backman has assumed the mantle of the Eagles’ first-choice kick-in taker, and had a 19-disposal performance for 375 metres gained in Sunday’s upset win over GWS.

Having averaged 20 touches through the first nine games of his career, Lindsay joins Jobe Shanahan and Willem Duursma as nominees at West Coast. They were the three youngest players across both squads in Sunday’s match.

Lindsay - who turned 19 last month - said he was grateful for the recognition, having “loved every minute of AFL life”.

“We’ve been building each week so to get a win at home in front of our home fans is really a good reward for effort.

“I’m still learning a lot each week, but all the players and coaches have backed me in, which gives me a lot of confidence to go out there and perform.”

Duursma remains the bookmakers’ favourite to snare the overall prize at season’s end, with the No.1 draft pick considered a $2 prospect ahead of Carlton’s Jagga Smith ($2.75).

It’s just the fifth time since the award’s inception in 1993 that the Eagles – who have adopted the name Waalitj Marawar for Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds – have had a trio of nominees in the same year.

Jarrad Schofield, Chad Morrison and eventual winner Ben Cousins all received nods in 1996, with the other instances in 2004 (Brent Staker, Mark Seaby, Sam Butler and Beau Waters), 2011 (Luke Shuey, Jack Darling and Andrew Gaff) and 2023 (Reuben Ginbey, Jai Culley and Elijah Hewett).
