Swan Districts are mourning inaugural premiership player Lindsay Johnston who died this week aged 89.

Johnston played 27 games for the Bassendean-based club from 1959 until 1962, including being part of the team that won a maiden flag under legend Haydn Bunton Jnr.

He would kick three goals in the win against East Perth, having booted four in the preliminary final victory against Subiaco and two in the semifinal defeat to the Royals.

Johnston became an umpire in his retirement, officiating the 1971 grand final between bitter rivals West Perth and East Perth.

He was awarded life membership at Swans in 1985 for his dedication to the club as a player representative, umpire adviser, director and player.

In 2021 Johnston was awarded life membership of the Swan Districts Past Players and Officials Association.
