Tokyo Paralympics 2021: day 12 rolling coverage; Madi de Rozario marathon gold, Jaryd Clifford

Jaryd Clifford won a silver medal for Australia in the men’s visually impaired marathon.

Legally blind, the 22 year old Victorian showed incredible stamina, vomiting as he neared the finish, to take second place behind Moroccan El Amin Chentouf.

Clifford also won a silver in the 5000m and bronze in 1500m.

In the women’s wheelchair marathon, Madi de Rozario has won the gold medal after a stunning and courageous performance.

The 27-year-old fought off a late challenge from Switzerland’s Manuela Schaer when they entered the Olympic stadium for one last lap of the track to win by a second after more than an hour and half racing around the streets of the Japanese capital.

Competing at her fourth Paralympics without having won a gold medal before, de Rozario has won two in Tokyo - the 80m and the marathon - plus bronze in the 1500m.

Australia now has 80 medals in total in Tokyo, including 21 golds.
