This Aussie golf star is used to making the cut in big tournaments - but this is surely the most impressive cut of his career.

Cameron Smith showed off his new ‘do just days before the men’s Olympic golf tournament, and if he holds it for the event, he’ll be easy to spot from a distance.

Smith combined his now customary epic mullet with the letters ‘AUS’ shaved in the side of his head.

The world No.28, Smith is Australia’s highest-ranked male golfer and considered a decent chance to challenge at the pointy end of the tournament.

“This is outstanding,” cricket legend Adam Gilchrist tweeted, giving the hairstyle his tick of approval.

The men’s golf tournament gets underway on Thursday at Kasumigaseki Golf Club, with the medalists to be crowned on Sunday.

We’re not expecting any similarly crazy hairstyles from WA duo Minjee Lee or Hannah Green when the women’s competition begins next Wednesday.
