Western Force have snared Super Rugby champion and powerful Wallabies centre Tevita Kuridrani for the 2021 season.

The Force confirmed the signing on Monday, with the centre crossing from the 2020 Super Rugby champions the Brumbies.

Kuridrani played one of his best games of the season in the final against the Queensland Reds, with Force head of rugby Matt Hodgson calling Kuridrani a massive addition as they set about rebuilding next year’s squad.

“This is a top-class signing that further bolsters our midfield,” Hodgson said.

“He brings a wealth of experience, professionalism and athleticism to the squad.

“To have made over 60 appearances for the Wallabies and scoring 100 points is no small feat, so to have a player of Kuridrani’s stature at the Western Force is simply fantastic.”

Coach Tim Sampson, who first saw Kuridrani as a young player in Brisbane, said he was delighted to have secured a player of his calibre.

“Tevita is a class player and has contributed immensely to Australian rugby over the years,” Sampson said.

“I remember watching him when he first came onto the scene as a youngster in Brisbane and suspected then he was a player who was going to go all the way.

“The discussions I have had with Tevita, he is very excited about moving to Perth, knuckling down and starting fresh at a new club.”

Fijian-born Kuridrani, 29, a powerful ball runner with the nickname K Train, played two seasons at the Brumbies with another new Force signing, centre signing Kyle Godwin.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Western Force and being in a new environment,” Kuridrani said.

“I played with Kyle Godwin at the Brumbies, so I’m looking forward to playing alongside him again.

“It has been a true honour to play for the Brumbies, a club that gave me a chance to play Super Rugby, and to live out my dreams.

“While I’m sad to be leaving the club, I feel the time is right for me in my career to have a fresh challenge and I’m excited for my new opportunity with the Western Force.”

Kuridrani made his Super debut in 2012 and a year later won the first of his 61 Wallabies caps. In 2017 he became the 28th player to score 100 points for Australia.

He was a surprise omission from new coach Dave Rennie’s 44-man squad for the Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship.
