Rather than decide between Kevin Proctor and Jamal Fogarty, Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook has named the pair as co-captains for the Titans' 2021 NRL season.

Experienced New Zealand international Proctor and halfback Fogarty were the two main contenders for the role, with Holbrook announcing his leadership structure on Friday.

Proctor took over the Titans' on-field captaincy last year when Ryan James' season was wrecked by a knee injuiry.

When Proctor himself copped a controversial four-game ban for biting Cronulla's Shaun Johnson late in the season, Holbrook turned to Fogarty to lead the team despite having just 17 first grade appearances to his name at the time.

With James having left to join Canberra, Holbrook said sharing the captaincy between both players was the obvious choice.

"I think KP did a really good job last year and the way Jamal came on last year and just lead the side around being a halfback, it was a perfect fit for us this year to have them both," he said.

"They complement each other and I'm really looking forward to them sharing the role this year."

The duo will start their co-captaincy on Saturday when the Titans face the Warriors in an NRL pre-season trial in Lismore.
