Josh Giddey is set to be under more intense scrutiny with reports police have now opened their own investigations into the allegations surrounding the Oklahoma Thunder star.

The 21-year-old point guard is already under investigation by the NBA after images appeared on social media of Giddey with a young girl who was allegedly underage.

Now according to TMZ reports, Giddey will also be the subject of a police inquiry with Newport Beach PD opening a case to confirm the validity of the claims and, if so, if any laws were broken.

No charges have been filed thus far while the NBA has also not provided any updates on its investigation which could take a backseat now law enforcement are involved.

Giddey has still not addressed the allegations blocking out his Instagram and shutting down questions from reporters.

“Yeah, I mean I understand the question obviously, but, err, there’s no further comment right now,” he said at a training session on Friday.

The guard is still free to play in the league scoring 10 points in his side’s 127-123 defeat by the Philadelphia 76ers.

The age of consent in California is 18, while it is 16 in Oklahoma and if proven true Giddey would be subject to criminal charges.

Australian basketball legend Andrew Bogut said regardless of the outcome the damage has already been done for Giddey.

“We have trial by media over the last 30 years and now trial by social media is probably a hundred times worse,” Bogut said on his podcast, Rogue Bogues.

“This is the thing, regardless of what comes out in the next week or two ... all these memes and all this s*** now, that’s going to be there forever. It’s hard to take it back on social media.

“From what I understand and knew, he’s never been a guy that’s got in trouble or knowingly wanted to go out and be silly. This is a valuable lesson for him.”
