Going ten rounds with Floyd Mayweather Jnr. on Sunday earned Conor McGregor an enormous bank balance and the respect of millions of sports fans.

It’s also caught the attention of some of the world’s best athletes — some who want a piece of the former UFC champion.

US swimming sensation Michael Phelps — better known as the most prolific gold medallist in Olympic history — threw down the gauntlet early with a challenge to get the Irish superstar into the water.

He’s joking, we think.

But this is the same Phelps who raced a shark — sort of — a month ago, so who knows what to think anymore?

Once he’s out of the water, McGregor has another challenger ready to take on sport’s latest multi-sport athlete: legendary darts player Phil “the Power” Taylor.

The colourful Englishman tweeted out his challenge, complete with a screenshot of a spoof article that claimed McGregor had called out the 16-times world darts champion in the wake of his defeat to Mayweather.

“So you fancy a bit of The Power do You?” Taylor jokingly chided.

At 57, Taylor would be giving up nearly 30 years to the 29-year-old McGregor — but in the rough and tumble world of darts, that might not be the biggest problem for a man considered the greatest to have played his sport.
