Robert Streb won a playoff to claim the RSM Classic in Georgia for his second PGA Tour title - his other coming in similar circumstances at the same event six years ago.

On Sunday, Streb made an 8-foot par putt to stay alive in the playoff with Kevin Kisner and ended it on the second extra hole with a tap-in birdie after he almost holed his approach with a pitching wedge.

In 2014, Streb rallied from a five-shot deficit before closing it out - on the second extra hole of a three-man playoff.

This time, he let slip an overnight three-shot lead until a 6-iron to 12 feet on the par-3 17th hole for a birdie allowed him to close with a 2-under 68 and force extra holes.

Streb and Kisner finished at 19-under 263, one shot ahead of Cameron Tringale (62).

Kisner, whose first of of three PGA Tour titles came at Sea Island in 2015, closed with a 63.

The victory came at just the right time for 33-year-old Streb who now has a two-year exemption through the end of August 2023, and he will return to the Masters in April.

In 11 tournaments of the new season, Streb is the fifth winner to be ranked outside the top 300 in the world.

Austrian Bernd Wiesberger (63) and Andrew Landry (64) shared fourth at 17 under.

Two-time major winner Zach Johnson (68) and Colombian Camilo Villegas (66) were in a four-man group tied for sixth a shot further back.

Former world No.1 Jason Day was the leading Australian at 14 under with his closing 65, which included six birdies, good enough to lift him to tied-12th.

His compatriots Matt Jones (66, 8-under) and Aaron Baddeley (73, 4-under) finished well back.
