Perth Thundersticks have welcomed back Hockeyroos midfielder Georgia Wilson as they prepare for their most important game of the season against the Tassie Tigers today.

A draw against the Tigers at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre will be enough for the Thundersticks to book a place in the inaugural Hockey One finals.

The WA side is only two championship points behind the Canberra Chill but have a better goal difference and a game in hand.

The Thundersticks could finish as high as second if Adelaide Fire and Brisbane Blaze lose.

Perth were forced to make four changes with Jacqui Day (work), Rachel Frusher (university), Jolie Sertorio (school exams) and Chloe Pendlebury (personal reasons) going out from the team that defeated NSW 2-0 last weekend. Hockeyroo Penny Squibb has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament with a hamstring injury.

Wilson returns to the team after playing in the Hockeyroos’ two-game Olympic qualifying series against Russia in Perth last weekend, while Phillipa Morgan, Line Malan and Caitlin Pascov have also been included.

Thundersticks coach Ed Welch said Wilson’s availability came at a perfect time.

“She trained with us this week and will have a role to play in the midfield,” he said.

“They (Australia) played the double-header last weekend, so she has the match fitness.

“The cooler conditions should see her, as with everyone, run out the game.”

The men’s team’s hopes of making the finals were dealt a blow when captain Aran Zalewski was ruled out of today’s game after sustaining an injury at training yesterday, with Daniel Robertson flown over to replace the national skipper.

Perth must beat the Tigers and rely on bottom-placed Adelaide Fire defeating Melbourne tomorrow to reach the top four.
