The clash between the top teams in the NBA's two conferences has lived up to expectations with another monster game from Joel Embiid lifting the Philadelphia 76ers to a 131-123 overtime win over the Utah Jazz.

Embiid led all scorers with 40 points, which included a game-tying three in the dying moments of regulation, while Tobias Harris chimed in with 22 points and Ben Simmons added 17.

Donovan Mitchell had 33 points for the Jazz, who have the best record in the NBA at 27-9 despite a second loss in a row.

Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic added 18 points apiece for Utah while Simmons' fellow Australian Joe Ingles contributed off the bench with 16 points.

It was the fifth game this season, more than all other players in the league combined, in which Embiid has posted at least 40 points and 10 rebounds in a game, he ended this one with 19 boards.

The 76ers are 24-12 this season to lead the east.

Mitchell was ejected with 30.8 seconds left in overtime after picking up his second technical. He got his first with 57.5 seconds remaining in the extra period after arguing a foul call.

In Cleveland, T.J. McConnell set an NBA record with nine steals in the first half and posted his second career triple-double with 16 points, 13 assists and a franchise-best 10 steals, in leading the Indiana Pacers to a 114-111 comeback victory over the Cavaliers.

Buddy Hield shook off a sore ankle to score 29 points as Sacramento won 123-120 against a Lakers side missing LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Elsewhere, the Mavericks beat the Thunder 87-78, Atlanta rallied from 19 down to see off Orlando 115-112, the Timberwolves slumped 102-135 against the Hornets, Chicago held off New Orleans 128-124 and Portland surged late to edge Golden State 108-106 despite a 35-point performance from the Warriors' Stephen Curry.
