Fremantle fans leaving Optus Stadium last night were left bewildered after the Matagarup Bridge was lit up in West Coast colours.

The Dockers pulled off a thrilling win against reigning premiers Richmond, jumping back into the top eight with a four-point victory over the Tigers.

But despite braving the elements to watch the famous victory, 24,979 fans were farewelled from the ground by a blue and gold display, rather than purple.

The stadium itself was lit up with purple, green and red to celebrate the Dockers’ Retro Round.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti, a self-described “big Dockers fan” who attended the game last night, revealed she had received complaints over the mix-up.

“After receiving a series of complaints from fellow commuters on the bus ride home, I can announce an investigation is underway into why the Matagarup Bridge was lit in Eagles colours after such a great win by the Dockers,” she said.

“We will get to the bottom of this. #foreverfreo

Ms Saffitoti posted a photo to her Twitter account once the bridge colours had been changed to purple, with the caption “all fixed”.
