One Nation’s Liam Christopher Hall mistaken for bombing accused hits out at people who shared his image

A former One Nation candidate, wrongly identified as the man accused of throwing a bomb into a crowd at an Invasion Day rally, has hit out at those who hounded him online. Liam Christopher Hall from Secret Harbour was harassed online this week after people mistook him for accused terrorist Liam Alexander Hall. A suppression order protecting the identity of Liam Alexander Hall was lifted in court on Tuesday and people were quick to confuse the pair. One-time political hopeful, Mr Hall, said he didn’t know his image was being shared online in association with the attack until One Nation senators got in touch. “I mean, obviously, the middle name is different, the age is different, we don’t even look alike, it’s not the same at all,” Mr Hall said. “I don’t think it was an honest mistake to say it was that Liam Hall; it smacks of something a bit more nasty than that. “I wonder, you know, how anybody else would feel if it happened to them and all they’ve done wrong is have the same name.” Mr Hall’s past One Nation candidate profile was taken down after the accused Mr Hall’s name became public. While he does hold conservative views, Mr Hall said he isn’t racist and would never engage in political violence. “I’ve never exhibited any racist tendencies. I don’t believe we ought to be racist or think I’m superior to other people,” Mr Hall added. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. “I don’t think it’s a protest if you’re being violent. I think there’s a way to protest peacefully and legally. Everyone has a right to do that. “But nobody has a right to harm anybody else. Like, that’s not the world we want to live in.” Mr Hall also doesn’t have a strong opinion regarding the Australia Day date. “As an Englishman, albeit, who has lived in Australia for 23 years now, I don’t really have a dog in the fight when it comes to Australia Day as such,” Mr Hall said. “But I think if people want to celebrate Australia, that’s fine, and I think if people don’t want to celebrate it, that’s also fine.” Mr Hall said he still hasn’t received an apology from anyone who had circulated his photo online. And he believes people were too easy to link One Nation with the alleged attack. “It just seems a little bit suspicious that no one cares about the potential victims, it was a near miss and could have been serious, but they care more about what people’s names are and their political affiliation,” he said. “That just seems backwards, and you feel a bit disappointed in people, that they would do this. It shows how immature people can be.” The father-of-four received 8.4 per cent of the primary vote at the 2025 state election, against Labor’s Paul Papalia. One Nation senator Rod Caddies urged people to stop sending hate comments to Mr Hall and urged them to be aware of defamation laws when posting online. “We know that people will jump to conclusions based on Google searches,” he said.
