A 13-year-old boy has died in a freak playground accident after becoming stuck inside a slide.

Olvin Cabrera Valladares was on his way to school in Miami on September 25 when he stopped in a nearby park to play.

Later that day, a father visiting the park with his children found the young teen trapped inside the slide and attempted to revive him whilst waiting for paramedics to arrive at the scene.

Olvin’s devastated mother, Estefanía Valladares, told Miami news channel Local 10 the man had been too late to save her son, who was placed on life support once transported to hospital.

“He told me he pulled on him, but he was caught on a screw,” Ms Valladares recounted.

“He pulled again, and my son fell out. His arm was inside of his shirt, and his collar was tight around his neck.”

Olvin’s family was later told he had been going down the slide when his shirt got stuck on a protruding screw before strangling him.

“Olvin struggled to free himself, but unfortunately, he couldn’t get his shirt out and eventually lost consciousness,” Olvin’s sister Stephany wrote on a GoFundMe page created to raise funds for his funeral.

Witnesses at the park report seeing Olvin hanging in the middle of the slide by his shirt collar.

Doctors attempted to revive Olvin for a week while he remained on life support as his family “held onto hope and prayed for a miracle,” according to his sister.

Tragically, Olvin was pronounced brain dead a week after the freak accident.

“We now face the painful task of making funeral arrangements for my brother while trying to process the sudden loss of someone we loved deeply,” Stephany said.

The tragedy has “completely devastated” Olvin’s family.

“He was my baby, my youngest, just 13-years-old. He had his whole life ahead of him,” Ms Valladares said of her son.

“He just wanted to play, and sadly, it was playing that took his life.”
