The first day of spring has been ushered in with hail and thunderstorms in a very wet start to the season.

There was no sun in sight this morning as Perth and WA copped a massive drenching.

Areas that saw the most rain include Bickley with 28.2mm, Dwellingup 24.4mm and Bunbury 10.8mm — while Hillarys experienced wind gusts of up to 83km/h.

It comes off the back of what is expected to be confirmed as the warmest winter since records began in 1910.

Hail fell as far away as Augusta and pummelled the Perth suburbs of Daglish, Butler and Rockingham.

Theresa Scott from Wellard captured this hail shower as it rocketed down around her home.

Rain, strong winds and storms have been predicted until at least Wednesday, however the Bureau says the outlook for Spring is actually warmer than usual.

It says WA can expect to exceed average maximum temperatures in the north east and across the state, as well as average to drier than normal conditions across the remainder of the state.

However, areas south-east of the state still have a high chance of exceeding the average rainfall

The bureau also says winter’s record warm weather was driven by high temperatures through the Kimberley and Pilbara

“We saw record high temps there, you add that into the statewide mix and they tend to push statewide temperatures up,” said bureau spokesperson Neil Bennett.

More wet weather is expected tomorrow, with a morning thunderstorm predicted. However, no weather warnings are currently in place.
