Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to hit parts of WA’s South West and lower west from early Wednesday morning.
A slow-moving cold front is forecast to bring persistent rain and embedded thunderstorms to coastal areas and parts of the hills.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns heavy falls could cause flash flooding, with six-hourly totals of 30 to 60mm and isolated falls of up to 70mm possible.
The heaviest rain is expected to ease by early Wednesday evening.
Areas that could be affected include Bunbury, Mandurah, Collie, Harvey, Dwellingup and Pinjarra.
Perth is forecast to receive up to 30mm of rain on Wednesday, with a high chance of at least 10mm. The wet weather is expected to continue on Thursday, with up to 10mm possible and a medium chance of at least 4mm.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises West Aussies in the warning area to prepare:
- Seek shelter indoors and stay away from trees, power lines, drains and waterways.
- Close curtains and blinds and keep away from windows.
- Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline phones during lightning.
- Get out of the water if boating, swimming or surfing.
- Take care on the roads and watch for fallen power lines and debris.
- Never enter floodwater, including drains, rivers, streams or waterways.
- Stay clear of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
- Treat fallen power lines as live and dangerous.
- Check your home, car and property for damage after the storm.
- Photograph any damage and contact your insurer to arrange repairs.
