Perth rainfall: This month on track to be city’s wettest ever July

It has rained in Perth on 25 of the 28 days of July so far - and there’s every chance it will be 28 out of 31 by the time the dreary month draws to a close.

That will make it the second-wettest July in Perth since 1946, based on the number of rain days.

But it could actually be the city’s wettest July ever.

So far this month 254.8mm of rain has fallen in the city, meaning we only need another 23.3mm to match the all-time mark for July, 278mm set in 1995.

The last two cold fronts of the month are set to lash the metro area from tomorrow.

Widespread falls of 10-25mm are expected across the South West during Thursday and Friday.

The heaviest falls are likely in western parts between Perth and Walpole, with isolated falls of 40-50mm possible about the Darling Scarp.

Dangerous winds, damaging surf and rain that could lead to further flooding will begin Thursday and last for several days across South West WA.

Squally showers are forecast to begin early Thursday across much of the South West, including Perth.

Conditions will ease on Friday, before intensifying Saturday evening as the second front crosses the South West Capes.

Conditions will be slightly less intense than earlier this week, but severe weather warnings will be in place for both cold fronts.
