NSW hit with heat before cooling storms

Temperatures in parts of NSW have soared above 30 degrees, but by the weekend many areas could be hit with storms and widespread wet weather.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the warm conditions will dominate on Thursday, with temperatures in the Sydney basin in the 30s and hot and dry westerly winds, before a southerly buster moves up the NSW coast.

The gusty southerly change will reach Sydney late in the afternoon, dropping temperatures by 5-10 degrees.

A strong wind warning has been issued for Sydney Closed Waters, Sydney Coast, Illawarra Coast, Batemans Coast and the Eden Coast.

Severe thunderstorms could hit late on Friday, especially to areas in western NSW, and could continue on the weekend in parts of inland NSW

The trough will linger in NSW/ACT over the weekend bringing showers to most areas.
