Wundowie: Woman trapped in vehicle after early-morning collision on Great Eastern Highway

A woman has been flown to Royal Perth Hospital following a multiple vehicle crash on a busy highway east of Perth.
The RAC Rescue helicopter and three ambulance crews responded to the crash about 6.15am Monday on Great Eastern Highway in Wundowie, halfway between Mundaring and Northam.
A 46-year-old in a Kia Cerato hatchback travelling south on the highway collided with a 21-year-old in a blue Toyota Camry sedan travelling north.
Both women were seriously injured, with the 46-year-old airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital and the 21-year-old taken to Royal Perth Hospital under lights and sirens.
One of the women was trapped in a car and had to be removed by Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service firefighters.
A witness described an “absolutely horrific” scene.
He told 6PR two cars appeared to have collided head-on on the highway near the Hawke Avenue turnoff.
The crash involved a Commodore ute and an unknown white car.
Great Eastern Highway has been closed between Inkpen Road and Chedaring Road due to the crash.
