Tributes flow for Jaxxon Brinkworth after teen dies in crash in devastating start to Easter weekend

Tributes are pouring in for a young teenager killed in a motorcycle crash just metres away from his home, with his family issuing a heartbreaking statement saying “life will never be the same”. Jaxxon Brinkworth, 14, is one of three people killed in a devastating start to the Easter long weekend, that’s sparked a plea from senior police left stunned by other examples of driver misbehaviour. It’s unclear what caused the crash that killed Jaxxon. His dirt-bike collided with a Ford F150 utility on Albany Highway, in Bedfordale, about 4.25pm on Thursday. The 19-year-old male driver of the ute was not hurt. Jaxxon’s father, Alan Brinkworth, described his motorbike-loving son as his “best friend”. “My beautiful boy Jaxxon James Brinkworth has died today, rip my son ... the best, most wonderful little boy a father could ask for,” he shared in a social media post. “Life will never be the same, love you so much mate, my best friend, ride in heaven doing those wheelies, love you.” One friend — who did not want to be named — said Jaxxon was returning home from a ride when he was struck whilst crossing the road. “He was coming back from a ride ... he was crossing the road here to get back into his house ... and then he just got hit by a truck and then died instantly,” he told 7NEWS after arriving to see the crash site on Friday. He said Jaxxon was an avid motorcyclist who died “doing what he loved”. “He was probably one of the best riders on his bike that he died on,” he said. “(He was) always happy, always energised, always trying to make other people happy .... he had a good head.” One girl took to social media saying there were “no more happy days anymore knowing I’ve lost you”. “Jaxon, you’re gone too soon, forever my brother and in my heart, (the) best motorbike rider I know,” she said in a post. “The amount of support and love you have shows you were really a good one ... I love you and miss you, your death’s really effected yours and mine and a lot of people’s families. “I’ve known you my whole life and we’ve always been there for each other, even on days we would fight you were such a goose and never cared about getting hurt and I loved that about you, but now, no more of that and that absolutely tears me apart. “I hope you realise everyone here loves and misses you bro, never forget you my bro, forever 14.” Jaxxon was the first of three lives lost on Thursday in a horror start to the Easter weekend. Just minutes after Jaxxon was killed, a 30-year-old man lost control of his Harley Davidson motorbike whilst riding along a remote stretch of road on Kingsbury Drive, in Jarrahdale. He sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. And an 18-year-old woman — who was a passenger — was killed during a late-night drive in the mudflats near Rowan Street, in Derby, after the 19-year-old driver lost control of his Nissan Patrol and rolled. Two 17-year-old passengers and the driver were not injured, with the driver assisting police with inquiries. Road Policing Commander Mike Peters pleaded with drivers to stay safe this Easter and issued a stern rebuke to “selfish” drivers caught flouting the road rules - including a teenager clocked at more than 100km/h over the speed limit. “While we recognise the profound loss being experienced this weekend, we are also very clear about our expectations of drivers,” he said. “Every decision made behind the wheel matters. Those decisions determine whether you arrive home safely or whether police are left delivering devastating news to a family. That responsibility must be taken seriously by every driver. “Having a motor driver’s licence is not a gift . . . it can be taken away quite quickly during a double demerit point period.” The 17-year-old has been charged with reckless driving, and his car seized, after he allegedly reached 177 km/hour in a 70 zone on Shenton Avenue in Connolly in Perth’s north. A 31-year-old motorcyclist has also been charged after being detected at 166 km/h in a 70 zone on Beechboro Road North. Commander Peters vowed that police will be out in force over the long weekend “at all times of the day and night”, with double demerits in place until 11:59PM on Monday.
