Police investigating string of crashes across Perth, including 2-year-old hit by ute in Bayswater

A two-year-old child was rushed to hospital after being hit by a ute during a shocking 12-hour period on Perth roads. Police are investigating multiple serious crashes, including when the toddler was struck by a Great Wall utility on Guildford Road, near Adelia Street, about 8.20pm on Sunday. The child was seriously injured before being rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital, where they remained on Monday morning. Guildford Road was back open on Monday as investigators continued their work. A pair of major crash officers were observed walking slowly along the street, inspecting the area where the crash occurred. A small red blood stain could be seen on Guildford road just metres from the footpath. Neighbours told The West Australian they did not see or hear the crash because the street is “always loud”. Police are also probing an incident involving a motorcycle, which happened hours earlier in Ravenswood. A black CFMOTO CF400-6F motorcycle was travelling north on the Kwinana Freeway and Pinjarra Road on-ramp when the male rider crashed about 5.20pm. It is not believed any other vehicles were involved. Police said the rider was seriously injured before he was taken to Royal Perth Hospital. In the early hours of Monday, a silver Toyota Camry sedan left the road and struck a tree on Jon Sanders Drive approximately 500m south of Parkland Road just after 2am. A police spokeswoman said the silver Toyota Camry sedan — driven by a 23-year-old man — left the road and hit a tree before it caught fire. “The driver was trapped in the vehicle which caught fire,” she said. “Officers from Scarborough Police were first on the scene and extracted the driver.” Firefighters, who arrived a short time later, managed to extinguish the blaze. The driver was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries, where he underwent surgery on Monday morning. Hours later, in Balga, a car travelled off the Reid Highway overpass which trapped and seriously injured the driver about 5.15am. St John WA said the female driver, aged in her 20s, was seriously injured. Firefighters were working to free the driver after the vehicle landed on the road below, believed to be in the vicinity of Princess Road and Wilmington Crescent. A DFES spokeswoman said the vehicle was on its side when firefighter tried to free the driver. The driver was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital where she underwent surgery on Monday morning. She is being treated for serious injuries.
