Police say the death of a man who was found unresponsive on a driveway in South Perth is not suspicious.

The man was found by a passer-by about 6.50am. Police and St John Ambulance officers attended however the man was declared deceased a short time later.

Officers say it appears the 49-year-old man tripped on the kerb and fell.

It is understood the man had an underlying health condition and police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor in the tragedy.

Family members attended the scene to identify the body.

Douglas Avenue has been blocked off to traffic as officers continue their investigation.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
