A man has been hospitalised following a shark attack at a surfing spot in a remote part of Western Australia.

The man was bitten at the Bombie Surfing Spot near Exmouth, about 1200kms north of Perth, just after midday on Saturday.

Police and paramedics were not alerted because the man took himself to hospital following the incident.

The matter was reported to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, which will investigate the incident.

Authorities have warned surfers to remain cautious around the ‘Bombie’ area.
