An extra 51 lots will be added to Tuart Lakes Lifestyle Village in Baldivis.

The Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel approved the $6.48 million expansion at its September 2 meeting.

It will take the number of residencies on site to about 480.

The expansion was not advertised for public comment as the City of Rockingham believed it was consistent with previous approvals for the area.

“The proposal is considered to represent an orderly and logical extension of the existing lifestyle village ... and capable of being developed without resulting in unacceptable impacts on the surrounding locality,” a report to the panel said.

Tuart Lakes’ website describes it as a “premier over-50s community” with more than 35 resort-style facilities and “endless opportunities for recreation, socialising and relaxation”.

Part of the site is in an area classed as “bushfire prone” and the application included a bushfire management plan.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the increase in dwellings would put more pressure on the existing water reticulation network and it should be checked it had sufficient capacity.

Wellspring Road will be changed from egress only to allow both inbound and outbound traffic, but it will remain gated and open only to residents via a keycard system.

A condition of approval includes a stormwater management plan being prepared to the City of Rockingham’s satisfaction.

Cr Mark Jones said the village had been well received and provided a different type of accommodation.

Deputy panel presiding member Clayton Higham said it was a “relatively small” extension that fit in well with the area.
