Local shopping centre joins fight to help feed those in need

Stockland Baldivis Shopping Centre has partnered with charity Feed it Forward to unveil a permanent food donation bin to help curb food wastage and feed those in need.

Last Thursday centre manager Clare Riley met with charity head co-ordinator Monica Morunga to officially open the donation bin to the public.

“We’re pleased to continue our support of local charity Feed it Forward through in-centre non-perishable food donation points, the latest of which is located near Sushi Sushi,” Ms Riley said.

“We know how generous and compassionate our community is and encourage everyone to donate if they can. Last Christmas, Feed it Forward was able to create 100 hampers for those in need thanks to the many kind donations from locals,” she said.

Ms Morunga said the temporary bins installed over Christmas proved to be a great success, so Stockland Baldivis decided to set up a permanent bin in the centre for the charity to collect from all year round.

“The food in that bin is going to be helping the local families that are out there in need, and there are a lot of them,” Ms Morunga said.

“We just want to let the people know that this donation point is here and they can drop off any non-perishables into the bin and Feed it Forward will collect it and distribute to the community.”

At the official opening, Ms Riley also awarded Feed it Forward with a $1000 Stockland CARE grant to help them continue with the great work they do for the most vulnerable in the community.
