A Korean tourist has drowned at one of Karijini National Park’s most popular swimming holes overnight.

Police were advised around 5.30pm Thursday of an incident involving a man in his 20s swimming with friends at Fern Pool in Dales Gorge.

The man is said to have become distressed in the water, going beneath the surface and his friends lost sight of him.

Karijini rangers recovered him from the water but he was declared deceased at the scene by St John Ambulance officers.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It’s the second tragedy for the National Park area in less than a week after a man aged in his 30s died in a car rollover on Monday.

According to police, the man was a passenger in a Toyota Hilux travelling on the Great Northern Highway in Karijini when the vehicle left the road and rolled.

The man sadly died at the scene.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was flown to Perth with serious injuries.
