Local organisations and services joined forces to host a Family Fun Day in celebration of NAIDOC Week.

On Tuesday, Anglicare WA, Eastern Goldfields First Nations Council and Goldfields Community Legal Centre hosted the event at Evolution Mining Stadium, offering games, activities and competitions alongside community service stalls.

Anglicare’s local cultural navigator Redina Taylor said the event was about bringing the community together to celebrate the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for all Australians to recognise and honour the world’s oldest continuing cultures while reflecting on the strength, resilience and contributions of First Nations people,” she said.

“By working alongside local agencies and organisations we can give back to the community, strengthen connections and create opportunities to help close the gap.

“It is also a chance to celebrate, share and learn more about the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal people throughout the Goldfield-Esperance region.”
