A ring light remote control has been urgently recalled amid concerns the button batteries could be accessed by children.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission issued the recall for the bluetooth device used to operate several Cygnett ring lights – a popular tool used by social media influencers.

The battery compartment is not adequately secured and authorities are concerned the button battery could be easily accessible.

A ring light remote has been urgently recalled over fears a defect could lead to “serious illness or death”.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission issued a notice on Friday for the remote used to operate Cygnett’s V-Glamour, V-Pro, V-Pro Travel, V-Tuber Pro and V-Dual Classic ring lights.

“If young children gain access to the button batteries and ingest them, they may suffer internal burn injuries, which can result in serious illness or death,” the alert on the Product Safety Australia website said.

“In addition, the batteries may pose a choking hazard to young children.”

The ring lights are not affected by the recall but the remote was paired with them.

Consumers have been warned to stop using the remote and store it where children can’t reach it until it can be replaced.

The item cannot be returned but customers can fill out a form online to have a new one sent out. The old one can be sent back to Cygnett so they can safely dispose of it.

Product Safety said the new remote would have a screw mechanism to secure the button battery compartment.
