QantasLink flight from iron mine makes ‘priority landing’ with damaged wheel

Travellers out of a West Australian mine site had an unusual landing at Perth Airport on Thursday, touching down with a flat tyre. QF2919 from Christmas Creek, in the Pilbara region, to Perth Airport was forced to make a “priority landing” on Thursday after the QantasLink pilot reported an issue with the plane’s rear tyre while in the air. No one on-board was injured and a Qantas spokesperson emphasised that the plane did not make an emergency landing. The flight, operated by Qantas’ regional subsidiary, left Fortescue Metals’ iron ore mine at 11.11am. It landed at Perth Airport at 1.57pm, after being slated for an initial 12.55pm arrival. A spokesperson for Perth Airport said the F100 plane went into assessment and maintenance upon its landing. “The pilots followed standard procedure and the plane landed normally,” a Qantas spokesperson said. “The aircraft will be inspected by engineers before returning to service.”
