Term ends in a flurry of colour

Term 1 went out in a blaze of colour for lucky students at Wickham Primary School last week.

School staff and volunteers made many a childhood fantasy come true when they organised a “colour run”, a paint race around the school which saw children sprayed with seven different colours of bright powdered paint at every turn.

The fun and games were certainly not just for children though, with staff and adult volunteers dousing each other in coloured dust just as often.

New principal Heather Stephens said she had been inspired to introduce the run as a reward for good student behaviour after seeing them done in Perth schools.

“It was such a great community event with everyone laughing,” she said.

“I think sometimes schools can be so focused on teacher learning and student outcomes, and we need to engage with kids, so this is just a wonderful way.”

Ms Stephens said she hoped to run more reward days like this in future, including at least one colour run every year.
