Situation vacant: ghost town caretaker

Australian history buffs take note, colonial ghost town Cossack is in need of two new caretakers.

Advertisements for one full-time Caretaker position and one part-time Assistant Caretaker position in Cossack, both on 12-month contracts, were posted on online job boards earlier this month.

The abandoned pearling town is a popular City of Karratha tourist site and caretakers, who are the only two official residents, bear sole responsibility for maintaining its historic buildings. The roles are rare to come by and usually highly sought after.

The ad lists main caretaker duties as managing Cossack’s buildings and surroundings to a high standard and providing security. Both roles require workers to live in the town.
