An art selection group who will help pick the mural design for the Onslow water tank project is looking for community feedback to help guide their decisions. The Onslow art working group was formed after the fallout between the Shire of Ashburton and artist Guido Van Helten when the painter walked away from the project over design disputes. Councillors voted at their June meeting to continue with the project and in August endorsed a confidential item to terminate the contract between van Helten and the Shire for the Onslow mural. It is hoped the artist would be appointed before the end of the year with installation to commence April 2022. Shire of Ashburton president Kerry White said the working group would represent the interests of Onslow’s community. “The group are looking for community sentiment via an online survey so that they can listen to the feedback of the community in relation to community aspiration for the mural,” she said. “An Expression of Interest for artists will open soon, giving artists three weeks to submit their response.” The survey is open until October 15.
