The Shire of Ashburtons’ highly anticipated golden jubilee has received an injection of rock and roll with Australian music royalty The Choirboys set to rock Onslow as part of the celebrations. The Choirboys will grace the stage at Onslow’s Thalanji Oval as part of a series of events to celebrate the local government authority’s milestone. The 50-year anniversary will commence on June 11 at the Mountain View Sporting Club from 4pm with live music from the Coolibah Collective, Black Sorrows Trio, Ian Moss and Nameless Festival Favourites Tre Amici. Meanwhile on the June 18 weekend Onslow residents will be able to commemorate the milestone with a Family Fun Day featuring an ice skating rink, mini golf, and rock climbing. That evening a free concert will also be held on Thalanyji Oval headlined by Australian rock band The Choirboys with food vans and a pop-up bar courtesy of Froth Brewery. Shire of Ashburton president Kerry White told the Pilbara News in March the council was proud to celebrate 50 years as a local government authority. “The first meeting of the shire in its current boundary, taking in the towns of Tom Price, Onslow, Paraburdoo and Pannawonica, along with the previous local government areas of Ashburton and Tableland, convened on June 8, 1972,” she said.
