Shire of Ashburton buys properties new Onslow estate
The Shire of Ashburton has snapped up three lots in Onslow’s Barrarda Estate through the Lots for Less residential land campaign.
LandCorp chief operations officer Dean Mudford said the Shire’s investment reflected confidence in the future growth of the town and the underlying strength of the region reflected in the late 2017 completion of the $29 billion Wheatstone LNG project.
“The town, including the Shire, is gearing up for the estimated first production from Wheatstone next year and based on current estimates the project will operate for at least the next 50 years,” he said.
Mr Mudford said the Shire of Ashburton was the first to receive the added incentives to purchase land at Barrarda Estate through LandCorp’s Lots for Less campaign.
Shire president Kerry White said the council needed additional land for staff homes and the timing of campaign had made the Barrarda Estate deal attractive.
“Barrarda Estate will allow us to offer our employees a home in a quality estate,” she said.
“(The estate has) great public spaces for the community and (is) backed by design guidelines that promote housing which reflects the character of our town and the climate of our region.”
The State Government confirmed in January this year they would also be investing in 10 properties in Barrarda Estate.
