Queensland circus troupe brings acrobatic show The Wet to Karratha

A First Nations-led circus ensemble brought its awe-inspiring acrobatic show exploring the hot damp of Far North Queensland to Karratha at the weekend. Held at the Red Earth Arts Precinct on Saturday, September 21, the show followed the green ant’s journey to higher ground to the final breaking of the storm, connecting audiences to the land and immersing them in the heat and humidity of the region. Conceived by Harley Mann (Wakka Wakka) and embodied by the Circa Cairns ensemble, The Wet showcased powerful, enduring circus performances rich in culture. Created on country across Far North Queensland, The Wet was born out of the ensemble’s deep connection to the landscape and their conversations with local communities. Drawing on ancient stories from the wet tropics, the performance reflected the profound relationship between the land and its people. Circa Cairns is based in Cairns on the lands of the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji people. A production spokesperson paid homage to the traditional custodians of the land, acknowledging that art has been practised in Karratha for millennia and remains a vital part of life.
